The Course Designer of Maarsbergen International Horse Trials is Eric Winter from the UK. He is well known in the Eventing scene.


Who is Eric Winter?

Eric started as a jumpingrider
Eric spent most of his formative years riding horses, to be more precise taking part in show jumping; where he won major classes at the Horse of the Year Show, Royal International and at Hickstead.Portret van Eric Winter in Badminton
In 1986 he turned his attention to Eventing. He competed at Badminton and Burgley in 1989 and 1990. He has represented England at International Level II in Holland and France (where he rode on the team).

Eric has represented the UK many times as a team rider. After his riding career Eric started to focus on designing cross-country courses.



With all his experience Eric Winter constantly tries to improve the safety of Eventing. He is a member of the British Eventing Cross Country Safety Advisory Group.

He is course designer and a Technical Delegate (TD) for the FEI, as well as a A-list course designer and Technical Advisor (TA) for British Eventing.


Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials

Many courses have been designed by Eric; among others the Asian Games, the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials and no less than ten times the cross country of the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials. From 2011 to 2014 he was the Technical Delegate (TD) of the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials. In 2016 Eric was asked to become the course designer of the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials. This CCI 4* together with the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event and the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials are the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing.

Together with his wife Lizzel Eric runs the Severnvale Equestrian Centre. A popular trainingfacility with more than 50 horses where instruction is given at every level. Children starting out with riding up to Eventing riders who compete at the level of CCI 4*.
